Blueberry Muffin Protein Thick Shake

This shake is thick, creamy, and tastes just like a blueberry muffin  but in a spoonable smoothie form. It’s packed with protein, healthy fats, and fiber, making it the perfect way to fuel your morning. I’ve been loving this one for breakfast lately, especially on days when I want something cold, satisfying, and easy to make. The best part? You don’t even need to bake anything. Just toss everything in a blender, and you’re good to go.

Method

1. Add the Base Ingredients

Start by adding your frozen banana and frozen wild blueberries to a high-speed blender. These form the thick, creamy base of your shake. The frozen banana adds natural sweetness and a smooth texture, while the wild blueberries give that rich blueberry muffin flavor and a beautiful color. It’s important to use frozen fruit here to get that thick, spoonable consistency.

2. Add the Boosters

Next, toss in the pitted Medjool date, chia seeds, collagen powder, vanilla protein powder, and almond butter. The date adds a soft caramel-like sweetness that complements the berries. Chia seeds bring in fiber and help thicken the shake even more once blended. The collagen and protein powder boost the protein content, making this shake super satisfying. Almond butter adds healthy fat and a nutty depth that rounds out the muffin flavor.

3. Add Liquid  Just a Little

Pour in a small splash of your milk of choice  just enough to help your blender get started. This is a key step. Using too much liquid can turn your thick shake into a drinkable smoothie. If you like it thick enough to eat with a spoon, start with just a few tablespoons of milk and increase only if your blender needs it to move the ingredients around.

4. Blend Until Smooth and Thick

Blend everything on high until the mixture is completely smooth and thick. You may need to stop once or twice to scrape down the sides with a spatula or spoon, especially if ingredients stick to the blender walls. If the blender seems stuck or is struggling to get everything moving, add another small splash of milk and continue blending. Patience here pays off  you want a smooth, rich texture that holds its shape in a spoon.

5. Prepare the Glass or Bowl

While the shake blends, prep your serving glass or bowl. For an extra touch, coat the inside of your glass with Greek yogurt. Just use the back of a spoon to spread a thin layer around the inside. This adds creaminess and a pretty visual detail when you pour the shake in.

6. Pour and Finish with Toppings

Once the shake is fully blended, spoon it into your prepared glass or bowl. It should be thick enough to mound slightly as you pour. For toppings, add a sprinkle of granola  I like blueberry hemp granola for crunch and flavor. You can also add fresh berries, a drizzle of almond butter, or a dusting of cinnamon if you’re feeling fancy.

7. Grab a Spoon and Enjoy

This is not a drink-you-through-a-straw situation. Grab a spoon, find a cozy spot, and enjoy your thick, blueberry muffin-inspired shake. It’s cold, creamy, and feels like dessert for breakfast, but with all the nutrients your body needs to start the day right.

Ingredients

  • 1 frozen banana

  • ½ cup frozen wild blueberries

  • 1 pitted Medjool date

  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds

  • 1 scoop collagen powder (I used Vital Proteins)

  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I love the one from Bulletproof)

  • 1 heaping tablespoon almond butter

  • Milk of choice (start with a small splash and add more if needed less liquid makes it thicker!

  • Optional for topping

  • Greek yogurt (I used FAGE to coat the sides of the glass)

  • Blueberry hemp granola (Purely Elizabeth is my go-to)

Directions

  • Add all ingredients to your blender, starting with the frozen banana and blueberries.
  • Pour in just a splash of milk. You can always add more later.
  • Blend until thick and creamy, stopping to scrape down the sides as needed.
  • If your blender is struggling, add another splash of milk and try again.
  • Once smooth, spoon it into a glass or bowl.
  • Optional: Swirl some Greek yogurt on the inside of your glass for that café-style look.
  • Top with your favorite crunchy granola and dive in with a spoon.

Notes

  • Don’t add too much milk at the start. It’s easy to go from thick and creamy to runny if you’re not careful. Start small and blend slowly.
  • If your blender can’t handle frozen fruit, let the banana and berries thaw for a few minutes before blending.
  • Use a spoon or spatula to stir the shake between blending rounds if it’s getting stuck.

Serving Suggestions

This thick shake is best enjoyed with a spoon. I love serving it in a tall glass coated with Greek yogurt for a creamy surprise in every bite. Top it with granola, fresh berries, or a sprinkle of cinnamon for extra flavor. It’s perfect as a breakfast, post-workout meal, or mid-afternoon treat.

Fun Fact

Wild blueberries have twice the antioxidants of regular blueberries. They’re smaller but pack more flavor and more health perks. That makes this shake both tasty and good for you.

Conclusion

This Blueberry Muffin Protein Thick Shake is everything I want in a breakfast  cold, creamy, filling, and full of flavor. It gives me that muffin taste I crave but with none of the baking. Whether you’re heading to work or just want a slow morning with something spoonable and satisfying, this shake is a winner. Try it once, and I promise it’ll be on repeat.
