Narutos Ramen From Ichiraku Ramen

If you’re a fan of Naruto like I am, you know how iconic Ichiraku Ramen is to Naruto Uzumaki. This recipe is my take on that famous bowl of ramen from his favorite spot! Get ready to slurp up a delicious bowl of Tonkotsu Miso Ramen, just like the one Naruto loves. It’s spicy, savory, and full of that ramen goodness!

Method

Make the Miso Tare

To begin, take a saucepan and combine the miso tare ingredients  white miso, red miso, mirin, sake, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, togarashi, and sesame seeds. Set the pan over high heat and mix all the ingredients together. Stir constantly until everything is well combined and the miso has dissolved. Once the mixture is uniform, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 2-3 minutes. This will allow the alcohol from the sake to evaporate, leaving behind a rich, savory flavor. Once the alcohol smell is gone, remove the saucepan from the heat and set the tare aside to cool slightly.

Prepare the Menma (Bamboo Shoots)

Now, grab a medium-sized pan and add sesame oil. Heat the pan over medium heat and, once hot, add the bamboo shoots. Sauté the bamboo shoots for 2-3 minutes, allowing them to take on a light golden color. After that, pour in the soy sauce, mirin, chicken powder, sugar, and water. Mix everything together and continue cooking the bamboo shoots for about 5-7 minutes. As the sauce reduces, it will coat the bamboo shoots, creating a flavorful topping. Stir occasionally to prevent burning. Once the sauce has thickened and the bamboo shoots are well coated, remove the pan from the heat and set the menma aside.

Cook the Ramen

In a separate pot, follow the instructions on the ramen packet to cook the noodles. Bring a pot of water to a boil and add the ramen noodles. While the noodles are cooking, you can also add the narutomaki slices to the boiling water to gently heat them up. Make sure to cook the noodles according to the packet instructions to avoid overcooking them. Once the noodles are ready, drain them and set them aside in a strainer.

Assemble the Ramen

Take your serving bowl and add about 1 tablespoon of the miso tare at the bottom. Pour in the hot broth, ensuring you mix the tare well with the broth. This will give the soup a delicious, rich base. Then, add the cooked noodles to the bowl, gently placing them on top of the broth. Now it’s time for the toppings! Begin with the menma (bamboo shoots), followed by the narutomaki slices, spring onion, and slices of chashu. Finally, add the three pieces of seaweed and the ramen egg on top of the ramen.

Enjoy

Your ramen is now ready to be enjoyed! Grab your chopsticks, take a deep breath of the savory aroma, and get ready to slurp. Whether you’re eating it alone or sharing with friends, this ramen is bound to bring joy and comfort in every bite.

  • Pinch of sesame seeds

  • Naruto Ramen

  • 1 ramen egg (soft boiled)

  • 2 slices narutomaki (fish cake)

  • 1 spring onion, chopped

  • Menma (bamboo shoot topping)

  • 3 seaweed sheets

  • 3 slices chashu (braised pork belly)

  • 1 pack of instant tonkotsu ramen

Directions

  • Make the Miso Tare  In a saucepan, combine all the miso tare ingredients (white miso, red miso, mirin, sake, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, togarashi, and sesame seeds). Cook on high heat, mixing as you go. Once it’s well-combined, turn the heat to low and continue to cook until the alcohol from the sake evaporates (about 2-3 minutes). Set this aside for later.
  • Prepare the Menma (Bamboo Shoots)  Heat sesame oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the bamboo shoots and sauté for 2-3 minutes. Next, add the soy sauce, mirin, chicken powder, sugar, and water. Let it cook down for another 5-7 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the bamboo shoots. Set aside.
  • Cook the Ramen  Follow the instructions on the instant ramen packet. While the noodles cook, you can add the narutomaki slices to the boiling water so they warm up. Once the noodles are cooked, set them aside.
  • Assemble the Ramen  In a large bowl, add about 1 tbsp of miso tare as a base. Pour in the hot broth and mix well. Then, add the noodles, followed by the toppings  menma, narutomaki slices, spring onion, chashu, seaweed, and the ramen egg.
  • Enjoy  Now, grab your chopsticks, get your bowl ready, and start slurping!

Notes

  • Miso Tare Cooking  Make sure to cook the miso tare on low heat after the alcohol evaporates. It’s easy to burn it, so keep an eye on it!
  • Bamboo Shoots  When sautéing the bamboo shoots, make sure they don’t burn. Stir frequently to avoid this.
  • Cooking Noodles  Don’t overcook the noodles! They cook quickly and can turn mushy if left in the water for too long.
