Cereal Milk Latte

You guys, I recently came across this amazing cereal milk creation by @chelleinmtl, and it got me thinking… why not make one using my all-time favorite childhood cereal  KoKo Krunch! The only catch? I couldn’t find the actual KoKo Krunch here , but no worries! I found a knock-off version at B&M, and guess what? It tastes pretty darn close! So, I’m just gonna pretend I’m back at home enjoying a bowl of KoKo Krunch.

Now, let’s talk about this latte   it’s like a mocha, but better! You soak the cereal in milk, shake it up, and voila, you’ve got yourself some chocolate milk, which is the absolute best part of eating cereal, right?! Add some espresso, sweet cold foam, and you’ve got a drink that’s both nostalgic and super delicious. Trust me, you’re gonna love this!

Method

Prepare the Cereal Milk

Start by adding your choice of milk (about 1-1.5 cups) and a good handful of your favorite cereal (roughly 1/2 to 1 cup) into a shaker or bottle. The goal here is to infuse the milk with all that delicious cereal flavor, so make sure the cereal is fully submerged in the milk. Once the ingredients are in, give the shaker a good shake. This will help release the chocolatey goodness from the cereal. Let it soak for around 3-5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together and create that rich, nostalgic cereal milk.

Prepare Your Glass

While the cereal is soaking, take a glass and fill it with ice. You want enough ice to keep your latte nice and cold. Once the milk and cereal have soaked long enough, it’s time to strain the cereal milk into the glass. Use a strainer to separate the cereal bits from the milk. You want to keep all the sweet, chocolatey cereal flavor without the bits floating around in your drink.

Brew the Espresso

Now it’s time for the espresso! Brew one shot of espresso. You can use any method you prefer   whether it’s an espresso machine, a stovetop espresso maker, or even a pod machine. Once your espresso is ready, pour it gently over the strained cereal milk in your glass. The warm espresso will mix perfectly with the cool cereal milk, creating a beautiful contrast of temperatures and flavors.

Make the Sweet Cold Foam

For the sweet cold foam, you’ll need a whisk or milk frother. In a separate bowl, whisk together 3 tablespoons of heavy cream, 1 tablespoon of milk, and 1/2 tablespoon of maple syrup. The maple syrup will add a touch of sweetness to complement the chocolatey cereal milk. Whisk or froth the mixture until it becomes nice and frothy. The foam should be light and airy, with a smooth texture that will float on top of your latte.

Assemble the Latte

Spoon the freshly made cold foam on top of the cereal milk latte, creating a nice, fluffy layer. To finish it off, top the foam with a few extra pieces of cereal. This not only adds a little crunch but also gives your drink that final touch of cereal goodness.

Ingredients

  • A good handful of your favorite cereal (about 1/2 – 1 cup) KoKo Krunch if you can find it!

  • Milk of your choice (I used oat milk, but go with whatever you like!)

  • Ice (enough to fill your glass)

  • 1 shot of espresso (or more if you’re feeling fancy!)

  • Sweet cold foam

  • 3 tbsp heavy cream

  • 1 tbsp milk

  • 1/2 tbsp maple syrup

Directions

  • Start by adding your milk and cereal to a shaker or bottle. Give it a good shake and let it soak for about 3-5 minutes so all that cereal goodness infuses the milk.
  • Fill your glass with ice. After soaking, strain the cereal milk into your glass, leaving behind the cereal bits.
  • Brew a shot of espresso and pour it gently over the cereal milk.
  • For the sweet cold foam, whisk the heavy cream, milk, and maple syrup together until it’s nice and frothy. Spoon the foam on top of your latte.
  • Top with a few more pieces of cereal for that extra crunch.

Notes

  • Shaking too hard  Be gentle when shaking your milk and cereal together. You want to mix it well but not cause a mess! A light, steady shake should do the trick.
  • Espresso timing  Make sure to pour the espresso over the milk right after brewing, or else it might cool down too much. You want that perfect hot-to-cold balance in your latte!
  • Cold foam texture  The sweet cold foam is key to this drink’s flavor. If you don’t have a milk frother, you can always whisk by hand, but it might take a little more effort to get it frothy.
